County Clare is in the southern province of Munster.

Located on the west coast of Ireland, Clare is northwest of the River Shannon.
The most populated town and county seat is Ennis.
Other major towns are Killaloe, Kilrush and Kilkee

Brian Boru was the most noted High King of Ireland and had his palace at Killaloe.

The southeast and south borders of the county are the River Shannon and the Shannon Estuary.

The northeast border is  Lough Derg and the west  is the Atlantic Ocean.

The Burren area contains rare flowers and fauna.
Facing the Atlantic Ocean are the Cliffs of Moher.

The highest point in County Clare is Moylussa,  in the Slieve Bernagh range near Killaloe  in the east of the county.
The only land border is County Galway to the north.

The main urban areas are Ennis  and Shannon.
